Dolomiti Clouds – Sony World Photography Awards 2016

Dolomiti Clouds was one of the 40 commended images of the panoramic section, of the last Sony World Photography Awards 2016!

On 15 August (2015) I had been, despite the weather, with some friends to G.Segantini refuge, above the Val d’Amola. In the afternoon for a short time the sky cleared and the sun went through the clouds and lit up the Val d’Amola and the Brenta in the distance. In those moments we descended to return home. It ‘was a special moment that gave me the perfect satisfaction, after carrying on my shoulders for the whole day my heavy camera equipment and after walking all day in the rain!!

I have been fascinated by the works of a painter, a master of his time, Albert Bierstadt. And this image for the conditions in which it was taken (time, light condition of the soil) and as developed in particular reminds me one of his paintings: “A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie”. I’m not comparing it to Bierstadt’s painting, God forbid !!

The Brenta Dolomites and the particular light after the storm over the Val d’Amola and Val Rendena gave me this beautiful image that I sent to the WPO to participate to the Sony World Photography Awards 2016!

Dolomiti Clouds è stata una delle 40 immagini (della sezione foto panoramiche) che hanno ricevuto una “lode” (commended image) ai Sony world Photography Awards 2016.

Lo scorso 15 agosto (2015) ero stato, nonostante il brutto tempo, con degli amici al rifugio G.Segantini, sopra la val d’Amola che si raggiunge salendo dalla val Nambrone imboccando la strada poco prima dell’abitato di Sant’Antonio di Mavignola dopo Pinzolo.

Nel pomeriggio per poco tempo il cielo si è aperto e la luce del sole ha attraversato le nuvole e illuminato la val d’Amola e il Brenta in lontananza. Proprio in quei momenti noi scendevamo per tornare verso casa.

Scattare questa fotografia mi ha dato la gratificazione perfetta dopo aver portato sulle spalle per l’intera giornata la mia pesante attrezzatura fotografica e dopo aver camminato tutto il giorno sotto l’acqua battente!!

Sono sempre stato affascinato dalle opere di un pittore, maestro del suo tempo, Albert Bierstadt. E questa immagine per le condizioni in cui è stata scattata (temporale, luce, conformità del terreno) e per come è stata sviluppata mi ricorda in particolare uno sei suoi dipinti “A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie”. Con questo non voglio ovviamente confrontarla con il dipinto di Bierstadt, ci mancherebbe!!

Le Dolomiti di Brenta e la particolare luce dopo il temporale sulla val d’Amola e sulla val Rendena, mi hanno regalato la bella immagine che ho inviato alla WPO per partecipare al concorso SWPA 2016.
